Image quality
Image quality of the W50 is good. I took the camera with me to a book signing by Celebrity Chef Giada De Laurentiis. The question and answer session was in a low lit area - perfect for testing out the ISO 1000 setting. The closest I could get was about 30 feet, too far for the flash. I tried a few pictures at ISO 200, but at 1/8 of a second, there was too much blur. After setting the scene mode to 'High Sensitivity' I was able to capture here at 1/30 of a second. The pictures came out grainy, but at least I got the pictures.

Summary

The Sony DSC-W50 was a pleasure to use. The nice compact camera fits nicely inside my shirt or pants pocket enabling me to sneak it into a rock concert where I took full advantage of the movie mode recording complete songs. In the dim light the exposure came out great. The ISO 1000 mode is pretty grainy, but it's better than capturing a blurry shot.

Conclusion

The Sony DSC-W50 is a great little compact camera that offers an impressive startup time (under 2 seconds) to take the first shot. It's small enough to fit in a pocket or small purse. The large LCD makes it a great camera to share pictures with it's slide show. The preset scene modes make this camera easy to use. With the many optional accessories available such as underwater housing, wide and telephoto lenses, filters, this camera will appeal to many who will want to expand the camera in the future. If you want a few more megapixels (7.2 megapixels), take a look at the Sony DSC-W70 for $50 more. The Sony DSC-W50 retails for $249, at this price it makes for a great starter camera that won't disappoint.
