
OLYMPUS CAMEDIA C-5000 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA PREVIEW PAGE AUGUST 29, 2003 Olympus is announcing today a new more affordable 5 megapixel CCD, 3X optical zoom lens (38mm - 114mm equivalent, f2.8/f4.8 - f8.0) digital camera called the Camedia C-5000 Zoom at an expected street price of $499, as well as two new Dye Sublimation Photo Printers, the 8 by 10 inch producing P-440 also selling at a street price of $499, and the 4 by 6 inch producing P-10 which will sell in the US at an estimated street price of $199. All three new photo products will become available in October, 2003.
The new C-5000 Zoom digital camera is the successor to last year's C-4000 and offers improvements including a 5.0 megapixel CCD instead of 4.0 megapixels, a 20% reduction in the size of the camera body, and a hot shoe for added flash capability which includes compatibility with the recent Olympus FL-50 or FL-20 Flash units for External TTL Flash. The camera features full manual controls, noise reduction for long exposures, a programmable "Custom Button" which allows users to assign one button for Auto Exposure, variable Drive settings, different ISO settings, and remote control operation, a dedicated "Quick View" instant play back button, a "sleep" function for variable idle times, manual shutter speeds from 16 to 1/1000 of a second, 4X digital zoom, as well as 6 Automatic Scene Program modes and has a new Unique for Olympus smaller, light weight silver colored body. The camera has USB Auto-Connect for easier PC connectivity. The camera will ship with a new Lithium-Ion battery and charger and will be able to work with a wide range of other Olympus accessories such as lenses and filters. The C-5000 will also be supplied with a 32MB xD-Picture Card, the USB Computer Connection Cable, Video Cable, Carrying Strap / Lens Cap, a nice RM-2 Wireless Remote Control, QuickStart Guide and Printed Basic Manual, and Limited Warranty Card. The CD ROM which is included contains CAMEDIA Master Editing software, Drivers for Windows 98SE, and User "Reference" manual.
